The Whelk costume and accompanying short video entitled, The Edge are part of a series of swimming costumes I am working on that reference water creatures and the impact that humans have on the waters that we all share. The costume is made of recycled materials polyurethane foam, sea glass, and shells as well as fabricated and painted surfaces.  The video features a fictional water snail that references mermaids, water spirits, and animals such as barnacles and snails that inhabit the coastal waterfront. She is fishing for shells that she might use as a home but finds that she does not need defined boundaries.
